Monthly Newsletter from the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult
AUGUST, 2020
Latest News, Insight and Analysis
Hello and welcome to the August edition of Re-Energise Online!
This month, we announced plans, in collaboration with Advance Northumberland, to develop a new prototype test facility to enhance South East Northumberland's position as an international leader in offshore wind turbine testing. It's your last chance to register for our Operations and Maintenance Centre of Excellence's virtual event 'A Vision for Smart O&M'. A Levenmouth Academy pupil becomes the first to receive the ORE Catapult Aspire Bursary, and, finally, with Global Offshore Wind 2020 around the corner, we give an overview of ORE Catapult's presence at the virtual event.
Contact us at info@ore.catapult.org.uk or via your usual Catapult contact to discuss ways in which we can help and support you.
ORE Catapult has joined forces withAdvance Northumberlandto develop a new facility for testing the next generation of advanced offshore wind turbines. In a move designed to attract inward investment into the County linked with the rapidly expanding offshore renewable energy sector, the new facility could lead to the creation of hundreds of jobs and an investment of millions of pounds into the local economy.
The demonstrator site will be locally managed by our National Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth. We have extensive experience of operating and maintaining offshore wind turbines through our ownership of the 7MW Levenmouth Demonstration Turbine in Fife, Scotland.
Tony Quinn, Test Facilities Director for ORE Catapult said: “This is a development that would put South East Northumberland well and truly on the map as an international leader in bringing to market next-generation offshore wind turbine technology."
Last Chance to Register: A Vision for Smart O&M Virtual Event
This is the final call for those wishing to attend our 'A Vision for Smart O&M' virtual event to hear the latest O&M news and insights in offshore renewable energy. The event will deliver three sessions in areas that will play a key role in supporting the success and vision of O&M: Inspection, Maintenance and Repair; O&M Decarbonisation; Next Generation Operations and Control.
The virtual event will coincide with the official opening ofour Port of Grimsby facility, located at the heart of offshore wind O&M. Levenmouth Academy Bright Spark First to be Granted ORE Catapult's Aspire Bursary
Cailyn Calder, Levenmouth Academy pupil
Levenmouth Academy pupil Cailyn Calder has always set her sights high and, with sparkling exam results now under her belt, she’s heading to Glasgow University to read a Masters Degree in Physics, supported by the first ever ORE Catapult Aspire Bursary.
ORE Catapult has partnered with Levenmouth Academy to support their STEM curriculum since 2016. The newly introduced Bursary will provide both financial and mentoring support to the highest achieving students going on from Levenmouth Academy to study STEM subjects in Higher Education.
ORE Catapult's Marketing and Communications Director, Charles Thompson, said, “Our world needs engineers, scientists, innovators, and the Catapult is delighted to support Levenmouth Academy pupils in the critical STEM subjects. Huge congratulations to the pupils who have won these awards, and we look forward to supporting Cailyn throughout her University career.”
ORE Catapult is once again proud to be an event partner at this year's Global Offshore Wind. The three-day conference looks to address the role offshore wind will play in helping the world's economies achieve net-zero.
As an event partner, ORE Catapult has five event champions:
