Monthly Newsletter from the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult
SEPTEMBER, 2020
Latest News, Insight and Analysis
Hello and welcome to the September edition of Re-Energise Online!
This month, we published a report, in collaboration with the Offshore Wind Industry Council, calling for immediate action to secure a world-leading position in green hydrogen production. Our Fit for Offshore Renewables New Anglia programme announced the first ten successful companies to take part in the 12-month business improvement and supply chain readiness programme. In the run up to Floating Offshore Wind 2020, Programme Manager Ralph Torr highlights the role of our Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence in accelerating the scale-up of floating wind technology in the UK. Finally, with Floating Offshore Wind and Global Offshore Wind 2020 around the corner, we give an overview of our planned presence at these virtual events.
Contact us at info@ore.catapult.org.uk or via your usual Catapult contact to discuss ways in which we can help and support you.
According to the report, the development of an indigenous green hydrogen industry could generate ÂŁ320bn for the UK economy and sustain up to 120,000 jobs by 2050. It highlights that the UK has the right level of offshore wind capacity potential, and a strong industrial base, combined with world-leading academic research, to develop a sustainable, low-cost green hydrogen industry, one that produces hydrogen without CO2 emissions from electrolysis of water.
An industry webinar on green hydrogen will take place on Friday 2nd October (11.00am-12.15pm). ORE Catapult, OWIC and RenewableUK will provide an update on the critical work coming out of the Offshore Wind Sector Deal towards delivering green hydrogen from offshore wind, including an in-depth analysis of the OWIC/ORE Catapult report and next steps to delivering against the UKâs net zero emissions commitments.
Ten Companies Get Fit For Offshore Renewables New Anglia
Ten New Anglia businesses prepare to get Fit For Offshore Renewables (F4OR) as they secure a place in the first intake of our industry-backed New Anglia Programme.
For the 10 winning companies, the 12-month business improvement and supply chain growth programme will prepare them to compete for, and secure, contracts at UK offshore wind farms by making them more attractive to offshore renewablesâ project developers.
Jointly funded by the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, successful delivery of F4OR New Anglia was a top priority for them as part of the Clean Growth Covid-19 Recovery Plan and to support the booming local energy supply chain.
In our latest blog, Ralph Torr, Programme Manager for our Floating Offshore Wind Centre Of Excellence, outlines the importance of investing in the scale-up of floating offshore wind if the UK is to surpass its net zero targets by 2050.
Floating offshore wind can absorb and maintain facilities, skills and know-how in the oil and gas industry and see these redeployed in a more sustainable way.
One way in which the UK is supporting the developing of floating offshore wind and the energy transition is through ORE Catapult's Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence. The Centre will accelerate the build-out of floating farms, create opportunities for the UK supply chain, and drive innovations in manufacturing, installation and O&M.
